Thursday, March 31 - Thursday good times...

These pics are from about two weeks ago, when a few of us went out for breakfast. The first shot is of Brent (Chicago) and Troy (Ottawa) in their stylin' new shades at breakfast. Afterwards, we went walking around a little and came across this promotional booth set up that had free rock climbing! The wall was really sketchy - a harness with seatbelt closures, holds that would spin as you put your weight on them, and after getting half way up, the wall itself would start swaying a little more than it should! But a few of us made it up and back down safely!

There's some market shots thrown in there for good measure...

The last pics - I don't know why, but there are so many shoes over wires here - everywhere you go, not just one area of town! I'm still trying to figure out why they do it... I'll let you know when I know!

Friday, March 25 - The people...

I love taking pictures of people, but it's not always the easiest to get candid shots of strangers. But this time, it worked out great! On the way home from Laguna de Apoyo, we gave a lift to a little old man and his bundle of wood. He was such an interesting looking character, and at 87 years old, doing quite well!

Monday, March 21 - La Laguna de Apoyo

A couple Mondays ago, a few of us piled in Bob & Glynis' truck and headed up to the Laguna de Apoyo. This is a lake in the crater of an old volcano. The water was beautiful - reminded me of Northern Ontario lakes (and then I missed Ashley and a good book!)

The two Canadian boys from Ottawa (Troy & Parker) and myself tried to uphold the title of 'Crazy Canadians' by jumping/flipping/diving off anything we could find! I thought of Trevor and Louise and Whiskey Jack a lot - Trevor, you would have loved it here! We went kayaking too and ended up having to drag Bob back when his Kayak started taking on water! (The picture of myself kayaking was taken by Rob & Anne Watcher, a couple from Canada as well who are photographers for a living! Check out their blog here: www.asifweknow.com/jw Needless to say, it was quite the day!

Thursday, March 17 - Walking around Granada

Granada is one of the, if not THE tourist place to be in Nicaragua. So you see a ton of tourists, which has it's advantages and disadvantages! The main reason for Granada being so popular has do to with it's Colonial architecture. Sometimes you feel like you're somewhere in the middle of Spain! The San Francisco Church in the pics below is an example of that. Depending on the angle you look at it, it can look like it's only two dimensional!

The red truck is owned by a couple from England (Bob & Glynis) who have been here for about a year and a half. They're really generous with using it and piling in as many as can fit! The last picture is of Brianna (from Chicago, lives here) and Troy (from Ottawa, Canada, visiting for five weeks) in the back of Bob's truck on the way home from a get together. We had a little 'truckbed' party on the way back into town with music and all! Great times!

Tuesday, March 15 - Welcome to Granada!

So I've been in Granada for about two weeks already, but haven't posted anything yet. Sorry! It's been a hectic two weeks!

I met up with some friends that are originally from Chicago, but are now in Granada (the Newbon family). My good buddy Lamont is here too, and it's been really trippy being here in Nicaragua together! We miss you JoeJoe, Kateo and Ashley! These are pictures of one of my first nights in Granada. We have Lamont, Brianna and Brent at their finest!

Tuesday, March 15 - The last of Cardenas pictures

Well, it's been a while since the last update, so I figured I should fire up the editing/posting machine again to keep you all in the loop of what's happening out here. Before getting into Granada pictures, I wanted to post these last few ones of Cardenas, on the coast of Lago de Nicaragua. The islands are called Ometepe and you can see the imitation Ometepe the kids made in the sand!

Wednesday, March 02 - Tree Climbing out in Service!

Yep, sometimes you just can't resist a good tree! (Thanks to Micah who took the picture!)
